The day begins with preparation. Our examiners at D&K Management Consultants ensure that their polygraph equipment is meticulously calibrated, monitor heart rate, breathing, and perspiration with precision. Conducting the test is a structured process. We create a calm environment, often starting with light conversation—perhaps about the latest rugby match or local weather, to put clients at ease. Then come the critical questions: “Did you take the money?” or “Were you at the stated location?” Responses vary, some show visible tension, others maintain a steady gaze, but our advanced equipment captures the data, and our expertise interprets it. Are there ever amazing scenarios during the polygraph examination?

Below is an example of one such case.

During a case at a financial institution, our examiner was probing the theft of R80,000 from a bulk safe. Ten cashiers and the safe’s custodian were lined up for polygraph tests. One candidate strolled in, cool as you like, breezed through the pre-interview, and nodded along to the process. Hooked up and ready, he suddenly piped up, “Hang on, these questions, they’re just about the R80,000, right?”

Sensing a plot twist, our examiner paused the test and asked if he had something to share. “Nope,” he said, so we geared up again. But just as the machine hummed to life, he stopped again. “Seriously, it’s only the R80,000? Because, uh, I’ve taken small “loans” over time, nothing they’ve noticed. That won’t mess this up, will it?”

Talk about a plot twist! We adjusted the questions, cleared him on the R80,000 theft, but his own confession about the other “loans” sank him. Let’s just say he didn’t stick around at the job much longer. Truth’s a funny thing—it sneaks out when you least expect it, especially under stress.
